Exclusive Interviw with Viviane Bonfim
Hi Viviane! It is great to speak with you!
Let’s start with a bit about you! What is your teaching background?
Hi, Thanks for having me. My teaching background is very international. I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where my teaching career began. I have taught in Brazil, United States, and Portugal. I have always taught Elementary School and I have taught both Common Core and IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum.
And now you are teaching in NYC! How has that experience been?
I love NY. It has been great teaching the youth of NY. I live in Manhattan and this is where my school is located and it is fantastic to teach children with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Do you have a favorite subject to teach?
I love reading, so my students know that I love teaching my students new reading strategies. My students are improving their reading skills, so I am safe to say that reading is my favorite subject to teach.
Do you have any career goals you haven’t accomplished yet that you are working toward?
Yes, I do. I am working on my second master’s degree, this time focusing on leadership. I would like to become an instructional coach in the future and support teachers in the classroom. Also, I recently got certified in NY State. Now, I hold a Special Education certificate.
What is a word of advice you would give to teachers just getting started in their careers?
Be flexible. I think when a teacher is flexible, career will run smoothly. So many things happen during a single teaching day for a teacher, you need to be flexible and be able to adjust your plan to new changes, which will always come.
Thank you so much for your time!
