Interview with Tamara Usatova

What have been your greatest achievements in 2019?

2019 was very productive for me. The greatest achievement of 2019 was re-launching my solo artist career. It’s so easy to get stuck in survival mode when living in New York, and I had been in it since I moved here 4 years ago. After not writing songs and not making any videos, I finally got myself back on track. I released two new singles Answer Me and No Need to Explain, started a YouTube channel with cover videos released every month, built my new Instagram page from scratch, and what most exciting, I am about to realize my long-time dream – the release of Christmas album on November 22nd.

Where are you guys headed for 2020?

In 2020 I plan to continue doing what I’ve started – I will keep on making videos, recording new songs, and will work on a new album.

Please tell us about your upcoming Christmas release.

I have always wanted to record a Christmas album. Every time December would arrive I would always get upset at myself for not getting it done. But this year I got myself together and finally made my dream come true: came up with a concept, gathered an incredible group of musicians and producers, co-arranged the songs and finally recorded it. The concept behind this album was to recreate the warm and cozy sound of the old Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby records. That’s why we approached the recording of the album in the old-fashioned way: we did it straight to tape, with no edits afterwards, and mastered on tape as well. Thanks to producer Brad Allen Williams it sounds exactly the way I wanted. I am releasing the behind-the-scenes video of the album recording next month as well.

Will there be release show for this release?

My Christmas show will happen on December 12 in Triad Theatre, NYC. I am very excited about it as I will present event both the songs from the album, as well as my newest singles and favorite cover songs. The plan is to make it all about the real musicianship and cozy vibes.

Who were your greatest musical and vocal influences growing up?

My music background (as well as discography) is quite diverse. I have always been passionate about 80’s soul-pop music and inspired by artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion. But my career started as a lead singer of a jazz band when I was 15. Since then the love for both jazz and pop/soul genres is always reflected in my original music.

Where can we follow you on line?

I am very active on Instagram (www.instagram.com/tamarausatova_ ) where I share both my music and a lot of life and psychology observations. I also release covers and original songs videos every month on my YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/tesaruga). For more information about me you can go on my website www.tamarausatova.com. And of course you can find my music on all the digital platforms.
