Exclusive InterviEw WITH Naomi Sky

Are you making any rounds with testing out new music on the road?

Not yet, but I’m really excited about some potential opportunities next year 🙂

What stories do you want to tell in your upcoming music?

I love writing stories about love. There are so many different types of love: romantic love, self-love, familial love, friendship love… It’s a fun topic to explore! Some of my upcoming music is based on real events. But I’m also really inspired by some of the books I read, the movies I watch, and the tv shows I see, or the stories I hear from my family and friends.

Are there any rules you set for yourself when you know you have to concentrate on making music?

I make it a priority to block out time for exercise, like dancing or running, because I find that exercise helps me to clear my mind. I also love holding a crystal healing session for myself before I record because it helps me to feel peaceful and focused. The only rule I set while I’m making music is staying off social media because I want to feel connected to myself, my intuition, and anyone I’m working with.

Do you ever feel like you need to label yourself as an artist?

I think it’s important to be able to describe myself as an artist, but I try to stay away from labeling or judging myself because I feel like that can limit creativity. And I always want to stay open to growth and any possible opportunities.

Is letting the work talk for itself a rule of thumb for you?

Yes. Over the past couple of years, I’ve realized that everyone creates their own personal meaning in music and art. A close friend really helped put this into perspective by pointing out how subjective art is, whether it’s dance or music or anything else in the arts. I love having my own personal connection and meaning for my music, and I’m happy to share it with my audience. But I also love the idea that every listener creates their own meaning and every one of my songs could mean something different to my fans.

What are the interactions with your fans like when you hear feedback from them about your music?

It is such a rewarding experience to hear positive feedback from a fan! Whether it’s a comment on Instagram or Facebook or Tiktok, my fans’ support brings the biggest smile to my face 🙂 and it feels like every interaction is a love fest!

What is a golden rule in music that you will always uphold?

“Be authentic”.

What’s it like moving forward after a song release?

Every song release is a little different because when I write from personal experiences, a song might bring up emotions about my past. It can also feel like I’m releasing the past by releasing the song. It always feels exciting in some way, no matter what the topic is, because I’m getting to share my voice and a new story with an audience!
