Exclusive Interviw with Modern Amusement

Hi Modern Amusement! Thank you for speaking with me today!

Hello! Thank you for having me!

What have you been working on lately?

I’m currently working on the second Modern Amusement album! I’m very excited about it, I think it’s going to be really special, it’s a little bit of a throwback to early 2000’s alternative rock/emo music, I’m working with a very talented group of musicians on this one that I’m very excited to announce at a later date. These songs and people mean a lot to me. Stay tuned!

What has been keeping you inspired to create recently?

As I recently got back into the swing of writing songs regularly, for me it’s just the buzz of creating something. Any time I start working on writing a new song that I think sounds good it’s like a burst of adrenaline for me! For me songwriting is the greatest expressive outlet I have and the joy of creating is the biggest motivation for me.

Have you noticed any shifts or changing trends in the music world lately that you find intriguing?

For me the best trend in music I’ve been seeing lately is more big artists self-releasing their music. In the past it was almost a requirement to have a record deal to get anyone in the world to listen to your music, but in this modern world people can make and share their music all on their own and keep all the rewards they deserve. Yes, it is hard to get heard with such a saturation of self-released music, but I think it’s also a great freedom that we should feel lucky to experience in our lifetime.

What has been the biggest game changer in your career this far?

I would definitely say that would be when I released my latest song “I Have A Crush On Lisa Loeb.” It was a song I wrote and recorded pretty quickly and it took off way more than I thought it would! It makes me so happy to hear different people’s responses to the song and see people resonating with something I wrote. It means a lot!

Who would you say is your biggest cheerleader in your career?

I think I’d have to put a few people here! Definitely my parents have been very supportive of me which I’m very grateful for, as well as my extended family who’ve been showing up to shows and helping financially support me which means so much. I’d also like to give a shout-out to Cepheid Thidwick who’s been a big supporter of Modern Amusement since day one when hardly anyone else was listening, you rule!

Any upcoming projects you want us to be on the lookout for?

Of course the album which should hopefully be rolling out by late fall, but besides this you can also check out Modern Amusement’s own webcomic Life Of Marco, featuring our band mascot Marco! Comics are my other passion beyond music and this is also something I find a lot of joy in. You can find it on Webtoons!
