Exclusive Interviw with Jay BANG The Great

How would you classify your music?

I classify my music as hip hop mixed with Rnb.

Who are some of your top 5 musical influences?

Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, Shawnna, Missy Elliott and  Nicki Minaj

What do you want fans to take from your music?

I want to be able to help fans deal with the roller-coaster that life brings. Life is a journey so why not have different types of music that can make people feel something depending on what they might be going through in that moment?

How’s the music scene in your locale?

The music scene is progressing we have a lot of eyes on Dallas lately we have a lot of talent out here. I just wish we could all come together as one city and make a tremendous move for our City like never before. Some people don’t look at it that way. It’s all a competition but there’s enough for everyone to win and be successful.

When did you know you were destined for music?

I first knew that I was destined to do music because I would here melodies out of nowhere and would just start making up hooks and verses to fit the melody and it was pretty dope. That’s when I knew I had a gift for writing music. I started singing first and later discovered that I can rap lol

What is the best concert you have been to? What do you like most about playing live?

Believe it or not I have not been to a concert yet. I’ve had opportunities to but was busy at the time. I plan on the first concert I attend to be my own. That would be a dream come true.

Is there a song on your latest CD release here that stands out as your personal favorite, and why?

My favorite single is my latest single “On Sight” I love the delivery and the beat as well as the lyrics. It’s a fun song to vibe to.

How have you evolved as an artist over the last year?

I’ve evolved a lot through my musical journey because I’ve learned a lot on the business side of things that has helped me tremendously.

If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, have a drink with any band or artist (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

It would be Shawnna and Nicki Minaj because both female rappers have influenced me to dig deep and bring out that creative side of me as a female rapper.  Shawnna, influences the lyricist part of me and Nicki more so the animated side of me.

What’s next for you?

“What’s next?” I plan on putting out more great music as well as putting myself in a position to win in the lane that I’m in. It’s a great time for female artists right now and I plan on being one of the most influential female rappers out.
