Exclusive Interview with William Nesmith
Hi William! Great to have you here today!
Please tell us about your upcoming release!
It’s an electrifying anthem to get it in gear and achieve your goals—whether they’re big or small. No matter how hard your goals may be to achieve, have a positive attitude and put “one foot in front of the other”
What was the creative process behind your new single?
The idea came from a prompt in the 5 in 5 Songwriting Challenge (http://songfancy.com/5-in-5-songwriting-challenge/). It’s a fun Facebook community headed up by Sarah Spencer (https://sarahspencer.com/). The challenge runs every couple of months with a goal of writing five songs in a week—five songs, five days. I wrote back in July 2020. There was also a unique sound on my Yamaha synthesizer called “Pluk-o-dy” that I used in my demo/voice memo. My producer Connor Holcombe (http://7cityrecording.com/) encouraged me to use the sound in the real recording.
What brings you the most joy and how are you going to do more of that in 2021?
I know it sounds strange, but I really like creating the visuals and social media content to promote my music. For this track, I made a fun lyric video, and shot a music video with my friend and mentor Lauren Light (https://www.laurenlight.com/)
What do you think your biggest risk will be in 2021?
Releasing music in general is always a risk. You work so hard on the back-end and you always hope people enjoy what you put together. I’ve got lots of new music coming this year, and I hope everyone will enjoy it.
What are you wanting to learn more of in the next year?
After Effects! I’m an Adobe Suite junkie and nothing satisfies like falling into a 3am YouTube rabbit hole. I think it’s all so incredible
What advice would you like to give yourself as you go into the new year?
I’d give this advice to fellow new artists. Don’t do it all, but don’t outsource it all either. Find things in the production and promotion process that bring you joy and strive to get better at them.
