Exclusive Interview with Westview

Hello! Thank you for speaking with me today!

You recently released your song “Replace your Batteries”! Will you tell us a bit about it?

“Replace Your Batteries” was written by our keyboardist Steve. With this song, we wanted listeners to think more deeply about their lives, but walk away feeling good.

It’s no secret we rely on devices everywhere we go. Phones and computers are so integrated with our everyday life, we tend to treat our bodies like devices too. It’s almost possible to live a happy, productive life without batteries, but these batteries also make us feel unhappy and unfulfilled. It’s a pretty absurd world we’re living in, let’s laugh about it.

What was the song writing process for it?

With most of our songs, we like to start with a solid rhythm and slowly progress into a thought out melody, and finally lyrics. But this song had a more unique process. Steve wrote the entire song from scratch and came to the rest of the band with a fully developed concept. The rest of the band threw in their flavor, but Steve is the mastermind behind RYB. 

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

We are inspired by a wide range of genres, but to name a few… we like Zappa, Grateful Dead, Talking Heads, Black Sabbath, Ween.

Who would be a dream collaboration for you?\

We grew up jamming on the blues, so grooving with modern-day greats like Gary Clark Jr. would be a blast!

Do you have a mantra or piece of advice you carry with you that you like to pass on to other musicians?

We joke about the intermingling between music and digital marketing into today’s industry. But we firmly believe you shouldn’t have to be a good marketer or self-promoter to be a successful musician. Just be yourself and don’t worry about making something that markets well.

Any other upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?

Replace Your Batteries is just one piece of a long year of recording. We have a few singles and a full length LP coming out in early 2022!
