Exclusive Interview with Gentry Blue
Gentry Blue! What a rockstar band name! Can you give us the background on it?
Gentry is our frontwoman’s last name– Travis, our guitarist, thought it would be a great band name after we all couldn’t think of anything else. We existed as ‘Gentry’ for around a year but changed our name to ‘Gentry Blue’ last May. Blue is such a beautiful and malleable color, and it seemed to simply just fit with Gentry (we tried coming up with other combos and this fit the best!)
What kind of band do you consider yourselves to be?
We’re a psychedelic hard rock band, but we like to describe ourselves as “if 90s grunge did 70s psychedelic rock, with a touch of violin”!
How have you curated your sound?
We play the music we love the most- which happens to be a mixture of classic rock from multiple decades. A few artists that we absolutely count as influences are Rush, Janis Joplin, Pearl Jam, and Jefferson Airplane.
You’re going to be dropping your EP ‘Pyrite and Steel’ on April 22nd! Congratulations! What’s the vibe for your new work?
We’re so excited, thank you!! ‘Pyrite and Steel’ has a very interesting vibe for sure. Space rock has been an influence for the majority of it. Lyrically, it focuses on how cruel and unpredictable the world can be, but how we all can overcome that and not let it drag us down.
Give us all your socials and how to listen to all your music?
You can listen to our music on every online platform including YouTube and Bandcamp, and we have one single out! The EP will also be dropping everywhere on April 22.
