International Actress and Comedian Brings the House Down at the Legendary DIME Club in Hollywood

International actress and stand-up comedian Despina Mirou continues her meteoric rise in comedy, delivering a standout performance at the world-famous Netflix Is a Joke Festival on May 5th at the legendary Dime Comedy Club in Hollywood. 

Sharing the stage with comedians including Josh Spear, Adam Hunter, Greg Wilson, Sammy Larsen, Genia Gulot, and many others, Despina captivated the packed audience with her fearless energy, beauty, improvisational brilliance, and razor-sharp observational comedy. The show was hosted by Josh Spear and Dan Paustian. 

The DIME Club, one of Los Angeles’ most respected comedy venues with more than 20 years of history, erupted with laughter during Despina’s hilarious routine titled “All About No Sex,” where she explored the cultural differences between Europeans and Americans in relationships and intimacy. Her act featured rapid-fire impersonations and exaggerated accents from Greece, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Turkey, England, and the United States — all performed with distinctive body language, voice changes, and spontaneous audience interaction. 

Dressed in striking red reminiscent of the iconic Netflix logo itself, Despina immediately commanded attention the moment she stepped on stage. Her unique blend of glamour, confidence, unpredictability, and comedic timing made her one of the most talked-about performers of the evening. 

This marks the third Netflix-related appearance for the international actress. Her first Netflix appearance came in 2019 with the hit series On My Block, followed by her previous participation in Netflix Is a Joke in 2022. 

Known throughout Hollywood for never revealing which character she plans to portray before taking the stage, Despina has built a reputation for pure improvisational comedy. She often creates characters inspired by people she encounters only hours before a performance. Her comedy calendar has included unforgettable portrayals of personalities ranging from Ozzy Osbourne and Elton John to Judge Judy, all complete with custom wigs, makeup, costumes, and improvised punchlines. 

“I am unpredictable and comedy should also be unpredictable,” says Despina. “I love spontaneity and improvisation because authenticity is what makes comedy feel alive.”  Her monologue for this show was inspired by Bernie Mac.

In addition to celebrity impersonations, Despina performs dozens of original characters and is known for doing all of her own makeup, styling, wigs, and costume transformations. During her 2026 comedy season alone, she introduced 14 completely original non-celebrity characters. 

Netflix Is a Joke, produced by Netflix, is considered one of the biggest live comedy festivals in the world, featuring hundreds of performances from top global comedians across Los Angeles. This year’s lineup included legendary names such as Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Sarah Silverman, Adam Sandler, Bill Burr, Conan O’Brien, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Pete Davidson, Ali Wong and many others. 

Despina also expressed admiration during the festival for British actress and comedian Diane Morgan, calling her “the new Lucy Ball.”
