Opening track “Help You Believe” is an immediate standout. With driving guitars and a soaring chorus, it’s a rousing anthem that wouldn’t feel out of place on a 2000s alt-rock radio playlist. The song’s emotional premise—offering support to someone struggling to hold on—is echoed in the earnest delivery and muscular instrumentation. It’s a fitting opener, inviting listeners into the album’s central mission: connection through shared experience.
“Something Good” follows with a lighter touch. Gentle in tone but emotionally resonant, it builds around a bright melody and lyrics that celebrate love as a redemptive force. This song—and others like it—demonstrate Skyfactor’s strength in pairing feel-good musicality with sincere lyrics, making their optimism feel earned rather than saccharine.
“There Will Be Us” and “Under the Stars” both keep the emotional thread intact while showcasing the band’s versatility. The former is a melodic rock song with a catchy chorus, while the latter leans more adult contemporary, its piano-driven undercurrent softening the band’s usual edge to reveal a romantic core. “Under the Stars” in particular has an intimate, live-show feel—one can easily picture lighters (or phone flashlights) in the air.
Mid-album, “Streets of New York” is one of the most sonically layered tracks. Beginning with gentle piano and acoustic guitar, it slowly blooms with orchestral strings and subtle textures, evoking both the isolation and hope that defined city life during times of upheaval. “Energy Over Me” flips the mood on its head—what begins as a slow burn explodes into a full-blown rock anthem, packed with energy and clearly built for radio play and live performance.
The album’s title track, “Master Plan,” strips things down a bit. Laid-back and introspective, it touches on family, grief, and the acceptance of life’s impermanence. It’s a moment of quiet clarity before the album builds toward its final act. “Set Out North” is perhaps the most cinematic offering on the record, combining lyrical imagery with storm sound design to create a journey both literal and emotional.

“Airport” brings things back to a personal level with a simple, acoustic arrangement and a heartfelt message from parent to child. Its bittersweet tone, mixed with an uplifting chorus, gives it both emotional weight and a sense of hope. The album ends with “Down the Road,” a sprawling closer that revisits the album’s major themes while showcasing Skyfactor’s rock chops. It’s a reflective yet celebratory finale—sending the listener off with a full heart and ringing ears.
With Master Plan, Skyfactor delivers an album that feels deeply lived-in. It’s the kind of record that invites multiple listens—not because it’s cryptic or complicated, but because it’s honest. At its best, it reminds us that life’s toughest moments can still be met with grace, gratitude, and a damn good chorus.
