Interview with Lexi Todd

Hey Lexi! You have some new music on the way – we are so excited to hear it. Can you share any details on what we can expect to hear?

Yes, I do! I’m releasing a new song at the end of this month. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s a groove. Trying to kick off the 2020 with a bang.

When you need inspiration to write new music or perform – what do you do to light the creative spark?

Sometimes the inspiration is just there; particularly in the mornings when I’m not rushing or in the shower. Other times I schedule block time to write alone or with co-writers. I’ll light candles and dim the artificial lights—I’m big on lighting. I almost always record my vocals in the dark.

Where are some of your favorite spots in NYC?

I love Nirvana book shop near Union Square. They have an amazing collection of self-help books, journals, oils and other things to get you feeling creative and flowing. I live relatively close to Prospect Park and like to jog through it and people watch. An L Train Vintage also just opened up a couple blocks from my apartment, which is a great affordable vintage shop.

We see you love to stay healthy and practice yoga. If you could be any fruit what would you be and why?

It’s a constant work-in-progress, but yes I generally try to stay healthy both physically and mentally. I would probably be a grapefruit; a little intense, but versatile. I grew up splitting grapefruits with my mom for breakfast. I love the smell too.

Tell us if we were riding in the car with you – who we would hear coming out of the speakers?

Funny enough, the speakers in the car I use regularly to get to gigs and things don’t work! I sing to myself a lot in the car. I actually write while I drive sometimes—although that’s tough because I have to go off memory, since I can’t take notes. When I remember to bring a portable speaker, I love to jam out to Phoebe Bridgers, Margaret Glaspy, and other female indie-rock/pop artists like them. It’s great music for a deep-thinking drive.

If you could go and open up a show for anyone who would it be?
Maggie Rogers. I feel like our music and aesthetics are very compatible. Plus, I’m a huge fan!

What else would you like our readers to know?

I’m really leaning into my New Year’s resolutions this month—which actually directly ties in with my new single. I’d love to hear what some of your reader’s resolutions are too!

Where can we support you on line?

My website has links to all of my social channels and to join my email list as well: lexitodd.com.
