Interview with Mark and the Tiger

Great to have you here.  Please tell us about yourself and your latest endeavor!

Thank you so much for having me! Well, the short story is I’m a singer and a songwriter living in LA. I’m originally from Maine but I’ve been out here for about 10 years. I’ve spent the last 8 of those years working to make music my full time career and lifestyle. It’s been quite a journey and it’s culminated in the release of my first official EP which will be out on Halloween! The EP is a collection of songs that I’ve been working on over the past 5 years or so. I’ve spent a long time searching for my specific “sound” as an artist and these songs are what were created during that search. None of them are representative of exactly who I am as an artist, but together they show the road I walked down to embrace who I am today.

Early riser or 2am just getting to bed?

Definitely an early riser. I’m usually up at 5am!

Everyone loves a winner.  What do you think it takes to be one?

Confidence is key. But even more important than that is the willingness and bravery to risk and fail over and over again. That’s the only way we grow and discover our strengths.

How has ART changed your life?

I think art has given me the outlet I’ve often needed in my life to mull over or work through the shadowy thoughts and feelings that so often come up. I think that as a society we tend to think of emotions like depression, fear, anxiety, anger, etc. as being things we have to irradiate from our experience in order to remain healthy and happy. I have found the exact opposite to be true. If we truly want to find happiness and balance in our lives we have to accept that these emotions are just part of the human experience and if we let them, they can be extraordinary teachers. Art in all forms offers most people a way to explore the darkest parts of themselves in deliciously sensory ways. That has certainly been true for me. And I have grown a lot because of it.
